ABOUT OBSERVATORY ART
Observatory Art was started in 2018 by artist and business owner Michael Tietz-Geldenhuys. A need arised to have like-minded people get together and share they passion for drawing and art. It started with a small group of mostly friends doing Life Drawing at the Observatory Community Centre. It soon grew to a bigger group having monthly drawing sessions and many people getting to opportunity to check “art model” of their bucket list.
During the COVID pandemic classes had to stop and was delayed. in 2021 a small group started again and in June a big group was hosted at The Ladder in Cape Town.
In 2022 Michael opened his own artist studio and art training school seeing the introduction of new workshops. Michael and Inge Semple presented an Artistic Anatomy for Portraiture workshop in July combining anatomy with classical drawing.
Silverpoint, Introduction to Drawing, painting with a limited pallet and coulage work are just some of the workshops that will be on offer.
